When you or someone you love needs medical care, you shouldn’t have to worry about whether you can afford it or how long you’ll have to wait. You should be able to count on getting the care you need.
But across Alberta, staffing shortages, limited resources and growing demands are putting that care further out of reach.
And while more options to pay for health care are being introduced, one question remains: How does paying more create more nurses, doctors or staffed beds?
It doesn’t.
That’s why United Nurses of Alberta is launching Alberta Needs Capacity, a province-wide campaign focused on affordability, capacity and fairness.
Because the answer to long waits isn’t allowing some people to pay to skip ahead. It’s making sure there’s enough care to go around. That means investing in the health-care professionals and resources Albertans depend on, so access to care is based on need, not the ability to pay.
Through radio, television, billboards, digital platforms and community outreach, we’re bringing this conversation to Albertans across the province.
More nurses. More doctors. More staffed beds. More care for Albertans.
Because when you need health care, it should be there for you.
Alberta Needs Capacity.

What is for-profit health care? For-profit health care means private, for-profit companies are taking on roles that used to be handled by the public system.

Alberta’s nurses are asking for significant pay increases – they’re worth it, and our health care system depends on it.
